INDIANAPOLIS — A 53-year-old man from Indianapolis is facing potential murder charges after a victim involved in a January battery incident passed away, with the death being ruled a homicide.
Details of the Incident
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), the incident unfolded on Tuesday, January 23, when officers were called to an “area hospital” in response to a report of a battered individual. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered an adult male with severe traumatic injuries.
Subsequent investigations led the police to a residence in the 4900 block of Media Drive, situated near Cold Spring Road and Michigan Road. The alleged suspect, a 53-year-old man, was identified in connection to the incident.
After a SWAT response, officers managed to apprehend the suspect without any further escalation. However, the situation took a tragic turn on March 31, when the victim succumbed to the injuries sustained during the altercation.
Coroner’s Ruling and Arrest
Following the victim’s death, the Marion County Coroner officially classified it as a homicide. The identity of the deceased will be disclosed once their family has been notified.
The suspect was initially arrested for domestic battery resulting in serious bodily harm. However, with the coroner’s ruling of homicide, the individual may potentially face murder charges. At present, no formal charges have been filed.
