The tragic discovery of a missing hiker in Utah County has left the community in mourning. The Utah County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the body of a 19-year-old woman was found below Horsetail Falls, after a hiker stumbled upon her phone with a distressing video.
Search and Rescue Operation
The search operation was launched on Friday afternoon when the sheriff’s office received a report of a hiker in distress in the Dry Creek Canyon area of Horsetail Falls. A hiker had found a phone that was set up to record, and upon viewing the footage, witnessed the woman being swept away in the river.
In response to the emergency, the Utah Department of Public Safety dispatched a helicopter to the scene along with a full search and rescue team. However, despite their efforts, the young woman was tragically found deceased below the waterfall.
Warning Against Water Activities
Sgt. Garrett Dutson of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning to the public, advising against entering the water due to the fast water flow. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of outdoor activities, especially in areas with unpredictable natural elements.
