Accident – Death – Obituary News : Kentucky State Police have made a grim discovery during a search of the family residence of missing 8-month-old Miya Rudd. Authorities announced on Friday that remains found at the home likely belong to the infant girl.

In a statement, Kentucky State Police detectives revealed that they located an infant’s body consistent with Miya Rudd at 1:15 pm. The body was found in a hidden corner of the residence, which was described as full of debris. Trooper Corey King informed NBC affiliate WFIE of nearby Evansville, Indiana, that the decomposing remains were not the results they had hoped for, but unfortunately, were expected.

Preliminary findings from a medical examiner, including possible identification, are anticipated as soon as Saturday. With the discovery of the infant’s body, the search has now transitioned into a criminal investigation.

Miya’s parents, Tesla Tucker, 29, and Cage Rudd, 30, along with paternal grandparents Billie J. Smith, 49, and Ricky J. Smith, 56, were arrested in early June on drug charges. Another individual, identified as Timothy L. Roach, was also taken into custody. All suspects, except for Roach, hail from Reynolds Station, located approximately 90 miles southwest of Louisville. Roach is from Owensboro, about 25 miles west of Reynolds Station.

It remains unclear whether the individuals have retained legal counsel. Law enforcement officials had previously spotted drugs, including fentanyl-containing pills, in plain sight at a Motel 6 where Miya’s parents were located. The pair also faced allegations of child abandonment.

Further complicating the situation, Miya’s maternal grandparents, Taletha and David Tucker, who have been caring for her three siblings, were arrested based on warrants. They were initially booked into Daviess County Detention Center in Owensboro.

On Thursday, state police charged Brodie C. Payne, 28, a man who had been living with Miya’s parents, with drug trafficking, including methamphetamine. Payne was already in custody on prior drug charges from May.

State police had used cadaver dogs to search the woods near Miya’s home for the missing girl earlier in the week. Authorities revealed that Miya’s umbilical cord had tested positive for methamphetamine shortly after birth, indicating a troubling history.

As the investigation continues, the community awaits further developments in this tragic case. This article was originally published on TODAY.com..
