A resident of Cape Coral, Florida, found himself in trouble with the law after allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash and assaulting a maintenance worker during a road rage incident on Sunday.

Details of the Incident

The Cape Coral Police Department received reports of a hit-and-run at 103 Del Prado Boulevard N around 3:18 p.m. Witnesses described a white pickup truck colliding with an SUV and another truck before driving off. Another caller reported a speeding truck with a flat tire in a nearby neighborhood.

Officers located the suspect, 38-year-old Juan Lago, at NE 2nd Street and NE 16th Place. Lago exhibited aggressive behaviour and was found to have slurred speech, glossy eyes, and the smell of alcohol on his person. He denied involvement in the crash and was in possession of an open pocket knife.

Sequence of Events

A witness recounted seeing Lago’s truck crash into another vehicle’s trailer hitch at a beauty store earlier in the day. Lago reportedly returned to the store intoxicated after being refused alcohol, spat on a worker, and left in his truck towards NE 2nd Street.

Another witness described Lago aggressively confronting them in their vehicle, attempting to enter the driver’s side and striking the window. A maintenance worker intervened, only to be threatened with a knife and punched by Lago.

Legal Consequences

Following a field sobriety test at a gas station, Lago was arrested for DUI and resisted breath testing. He was subsequently taken to Cape Coral Hospital, where he reportedly assaulted an officer while exiting a police vehicle.

Lago now faces multiple charges, including hit-and-run, DUI (3 counts), DUI property damage (3 counts), aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and battery on a police officer.
