A tragic incident occurred in Barangay Banago, Bacolod City on June 13, 2024, when a man riding his motorcycle was run over by a container truck. The incident took place shortly after 4 p.m., resulting in the death of the motorcycle driver.
According to reports, the motorcycle driver, identified as Joemarie Maniego, a 60-year-old councilman from Barangay Banago, attempted to overtake the truck. Unfortunately, he lost control of his motorcycle and was subsequently run over by the truck, sustaining a fatal head injury.
The driver of the container truck, known only as alias “Rodrigo,” a 59-year-old resident of Victorias City, Negros Occidental, was arrested by the Bacolod City Police on June 14, 2024. However, he was released pending a decision from the Maniego family on whether to pursue charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
Speaking on the matter, Captain Rondyl Tapang, the chief of Police Station 3, stated in a phone interview, “We released him after the 18-hour reglementary period. If the family decides to press criminal charges, we will proceed with a regular filing.”
