Double Homicide Uncovered in Las Vegas Home Near Wetlands Park
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Shock and horror gripped the residents of a quiet Las Vegas neighbourhood near Wetlands Park as news emerged of a double homicide captured on a surveillance camera inside a home. The gruesome details were revealed in an arrest report obtained by 8 News Now.
On the evening of Wednesday, June 5, at approximately 9:40 p.m., a chilling 911 call was made reporting the discovery of two lifeless bodies in a residence on Droubay Drive. The victims were later identified as Melinda Smith and Ronald Racine, found lying on the floor in the upstairs master bedroom with fatal gunshot wounds to the back of their heads.
According to the report, the homeowner of the property had left town on June 1 for work out of state, renting the house to Melinda, Ronald, and another unidentified individual. Concerned about their whereabouts, a neighbour was contacted by the unnamed renter after he had not heard from the couple for several days. The neighbour, accompanied by a friend, made the grim discovery in Ronald’s room in the presence of the third occupant.
It wasn’t until late that evening, almost 10 p.m., that authorities were alerted to the tragic incident.
Surveillance Footage Reveals Shocking Details
Detectives examining a surveillance camera in the bedroom unearthed chilling footage of Dianelys Fernandez, 33, and Guillermo Ramirez Lastre, 54, entering the room in the early hours of the day before the bodies were found. The video captured a heated argument between the suspects and Ronald over a vehicle and money owed, culminating in Ramirez Lastre fatally shooting Ronald.
As Melinda entered the room, she was informed by Ramirez Lastre that Ronald had taken his own life. The subsequent footage showed Ramirez Lastre still armed, with Melinda out of sight but later found in the same spot where she was last seen.
Following the killings, the suspects left the room, with no one else entering until the next day when the neighbour and renter arrived.
Arrest and Charges
Through Ronald’s cell phone records, Ramirez Lastre was identified as a suspect, with messages indicating a debt owed to the victim. Both Ramirez Lastre and Fernandez were apprehended on June 11, with Ramirez Lastre denying being armed at the crime scene despite video evidence to the contrary.
Charged with two counts of open murder with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery, both suspects are currently held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
Their next court appearance is scheduled for June 17, as the community grapples with the shock and tragedy of the senseless killings.
