Woman in Texas struck by police car receives jaywalking ticket

A young woman in Laredo, Texas, was hit by a police vehicle while trying to escape a violent domestic situation and was subsequently issued a jaywalking ticket.

The incident occurred on the night of June 8th, leaving the woman, identified as 19-year-old Deborah Flores Trevino, in critical condition.

Reports from KGNS News stated that Deborah had exited her vehicle to flee from a violent domestic dispute when she was struck by the police car around 11 pm.

Following the accident, Deborah was rushed to the hospital where she was treated for severe injuries and later given a jaywalking citation.

Days after the incident, Deborah’s mother, Yulia Trevino, spoke to the media, shedding light on the events leading up to the accident.

Yulia revealed that her daughter, who is pregnant, had exited the vehicle in an attempt to escape the domestic violence situation, which ultimately led to the collision with the police car.

“When she did that, she ironically gets hit by a cop car and [he] gives her a ticket for jaywalking,” Yulia expressed her disbelief at the situation.

She also mentioned that Deborah had refrained from reporting the abuse earlier out of fear.

Victim sustains critical injuries

According to reports from KGNS, Deborah suffered critical injuries from the accident, including a bleeding kidney, fractures in the back of her neck, and severe damage to her elbow and knee.

Yulia shared that Deborah was scheduled for surgery on June 10th and would be transferred to a military hospital in San Antonio.

“I feared for her life, you should see the condition she is in right now… I’m so shocked she survived this and the baby inside of her,” Yulia expressed her concerns for her daughter’s well-being.
