Suspect Arrested in Shooting of Deputy Deteryon Fontonet
The individual responsible for the shooting of Deputy Deteryon Fontonet has been apprehended and is now in custody at the Joint Processing Center. D’Anthony Simms-Coleman, aged 23, has been charged with first-degree felony aggravated assault of a public servant following a confession to multiple robberies and the attempted murder of Deputy Fontonet.
Constable Mark Herman provided an update on the situation, stating that Simms-Coleman is currently incarcerated at the Harris County Jail. In addition to the assault charge, further investigations are underway for robbery and theft-related offences. Court proceedings and bail information are not yet available.
Regarding Deputy Fontonet’s condition, Constable Herman revealed that the injured officer is now recuperating at home and is expected to fully recover. However, medical professionals have detected bullet fragments in three separate areas of his body, prompting ongoing assessments for the appropriate treatment plan.

Incident Overview
The events leading to the arrest unfolded when Deputy Fontonet identified the suspect’s vehicle after he allegedly carried out robberies at two Academy Sports and Outdoors stores using a fully automatic AR-15 pistol.
Constable Mark Herman described the weapon as a smaller version of a fully automatic AR-15 rifle, emphasizing its lethal capabilities. The ensuing car chase culminated at 5310 Slashwood Lane in Spring, where the suspect shot Deputy Fontonet in the face before seeking refuge in a relative’s residence.
Constable Herman highlighted the extent of the damage inflicted, with the patrol car sustaining 16 bullet holes and even the window being pierced where the deputy was positioned.
Law enforcement officers swiftly surrounded the property, leading to the eventual apprehension of the suspect, a 23-year-old male whose identity has yet to be disclosed.
