Nariah G. Rhodes, 18, of Alton, has been charged with home invasion (a Class X felony), criminal trespass to residence (a Class 4 felony) and battery (a Class A misdemeanor).

On May 24, 2024, Rhodes allegedly unlawfully entered an Alton residence, leading to a violent altercation detailed in a petition to deny her pretrial release:

“The defendant was identified as the individual who unlawfully entered the victim’s residence and physically assaulted her,” the petition states. “Multiple witnesses reported that the defendant forcefully entered through an exterior door and initiated the assault on the victim.

“The defendant had previously been trespassed from the same residence and was released by the Alton Police Department earlier that day under the SAFE-T Act. Shortly after, the defendant returned and attacked the victim.”

The state’s petition for detention was denied; a Release Order later stipulated that the court could not establish by “clear and convincing evidence” that no conditions could mitigate the threat Rhodes poses to the victim. Instead, she has been granted pretrial release with additional stipulations.

Among these conditions are a no-contact order with the victim, prohibition from the invaded property, restriction from leaving Illinois without court approval, prohibition from possessing firearms or other dangerous weapons, and mandatory home confinement except for work and treatment at a local behavioral health center.

The case against Rhodes was presented by the Alton Police Department.

The filing of charges is solely based on probable cause and does not imply guilt. All individuals charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
