Authorities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin have charged 28-year-old Cassandra J. Hult with first-degree reckless homicide in connection with the 2020 murder of her husband, Jose Santiago. The gruesome discovery was made when Santiago’s body was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the back of the head inside a car at St. Adalbert Cemetery.

The incident came to light on March 23, 2020, when a jogger stumbled upon the scene. The jogger, a regular visitor to the cemetery, noticed Santiago’s car had been stationary for several days before the tragic discovery was made. Law enforcement, including the Milwaukee Police Department, swiftly responded to the scene, uncovering crucial evidence such as a .38 caliber spent casing and items from McDonald’s inside the vehicle. Among the recovered items was a receipt dated March 22, 2020, at 12:29 PM.

Forensic analysis further linked both Santiago and Hult to the crime scene. Santiago’s DNA was found on a straw, while Hult’s fingerprints were discovered on the McDonald’s cups in the car. Additionally, cellphone data placed both individuals in the vicinity of the cemetery shortly before Santiago’s body was found.

Prosecutors have augmented the charges against Hult with a dangerous weapon modifier, potentially leading to harsher penalties if she is convicted. Legal proceedings are ongoing as the case against Hult moves forward.
