Biswajit Palei : 20-Year-Old Student Found in Kathajodi River | Cuttack News

Cuttack: A tragic incident unfolded in Cuttack as the body of a 20-year-old student was recovered from the Kathajodi river near Sector-7 of CDA. The victim, identified as Biswajit Palei, hailed from Palamandap and was pursuing his undergraduate studies in humanities.

The unfortunate incident took place when Biswajit, accompanied by five of his friends, decided to take a dip in the Kathajodi river at around 5.30 pm on Friday. Tragedy struck when he was swept away by the strong current of the river and ultimately drowned.

Local residents immediately alerted the authorities, following which a team comprising police and fire services personnel sprang into action to locate the missing student. Despite an exhaustive search on Friday, the efforts remained futile. It was only on Saturday morning after four hours of relentless search that Biswajit’s lifeless body was finally retrieved.

City Fire Officer Sanjib Behera recounted the challenging search operation, stating, “After three hours of searching on Friday, we were unable to find the body. We resumed the search on Saturday and after four hours of rigorous efforts, the body was located.”

ADCP Anil Mishra confirmed that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination at SCB Medical College and Hospital. Additionally, an unnatural death case has been registered in connection with the incident.
