An 8-year-old girl named Sydney Weston has tragically passed away after falling ill during a flight to Chicago. The Peoria County Coroner’s Office disclosed that Sydney was pronounced dead at 8:05 a.m. local time after being rushed to a nearby hospital.

Sydney’s parents raised the alarm to flight staff when she suddenly became unresponsive and unwell while on board the aircraft. The family was on their way to Chicago for a vacation when the heartbreaking incident occurred. The flight crew immediately sprang into action to provide aid, but unfortunately, Sydney’s condition continued to deteriorate.

Upon landing in Peoria, Sydney was found to be not breathing and without a pulse. Deputies, AMT Personnel, and Air National Guard Fire personnel carried out life-saving measures in a desperate attempt to save her life. Despite their best efforts, Sydney was pronounced dead upon arrival at OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday, June 14, to determine the exact cause of Sydney’s untimely passing. The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office responded to the medical emergency at Peoria International Airport, where the flight had landed.

Flight data from FlightAware revealed that the United flight 5121, operated by SkyWest Airlines, departed from Joplin at 5:51 a.m. and landed in Peoria at 7:02 a.m. The Peoria County Sheriff, Chris Watkins, urged the public to keep Sydney’s family and all those affected by this tragic event in their thoughts and prayers.
