Six individuals under the age of 18 have been formally charged by the Columbus Police Department in relation to the tragic drowning of 15-year-old Zahmere Greene. The incident, which occurred last month in Columbus, has left the community in shock.

The body of Greene was discovered floating in the waters near the Chattahoochee River on May 29, close to the fields behind Howe Avenue at the dead end of Ormand Drive. It is believed that Greene drowned on May 23, though the authorities were not alerted to the incident until six days later. Investigations have revealed that multiple minors were present and witnessed the drowning.

Due to their ages, the identities of the minors involved have not been disclosed. An 11-year-old has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and concealing the death of another, while two additional 11-year-olds face charges of concealing the death of another. Furthermore, a 17-year-old, 12-year-old, and 9-year-old have also been charged with concealing the death of another.

The 11-year-old accused of involuntary manslaughter is currently being held at the Regional Youth Detention Center, while the 17-year-old, identified as Sane Sano, is in custody at the Muscogee County Jail. The remaining minors have been processed and released into the care of their parents.
