The Government Railway Police apprehended a 32-year-old individual from Kerala at the Chennai Central Railway Station on Friday, June 14, 2024, for allegedly trying to smuggle a significant quantity of ganja on board an express train.

Authorities from both the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) were conducting their routine checks on trains when the Howrah Mail service, which runs from Brampur to Kozhikode, pulled into the Central station at approximately 3:45 a.m.

During the inspection of the train, alert police officers noticed a man carrying a suspicious bag. Upon closer examination, they discovered around 20 kilograms of ganja concealed inside the bag. The individual, identified as S. Mohammed Kasim hailing from Marakadavu in Mallapuram district, Kerala, was promptly taken into custody and transferred to the GRP station for further investigation.

Subsequent inquiries led to the formal arrest of Kasim, who was subsequently presented before a judicial magistrate to face charges related to drug smuggling. The incident serves as yet another reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat illegal activities within the country’s transportation networks.
