The victim of the invasion was subjected to brutal beatings, torture, and burns during the terrifying incident.

According to a spokesperson for the Hampden County District Attorney, Jim Leydon, a third person involved in the crime, who is a juvenile, was also convicted alongside Gayle and Erskine. The incident unfolded on September 30, 2019, when a Springfield police officer was flagged down by a distressed individual on Roosevelt Avenue. The perpetrators proceeded to restrain the victim with zip ties and subjected him to torture using an accelerant and ignition, resulting in severe burns. Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni expressed his gratitude towards the Springfield Police Department for their diligent investigation leading to the apprehension of the suspects. He also commended the efforts of Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Schlemmer in prosecuting the case, alongside Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Plummer and appellate counsel Assistant District Attorney Joe Coliflores.
