MADISON, Wis. (WMTV/Gray News) – In a shocking incident that made headlines across the nation, a school superintendent in Wisconsin recently found himself pushed off the graduation stage by a parent. Superintendent Dr. Rainey Briggs, of Baraboo High School, has finally broken his silence and shared his side of the story.

Speaking to WMTV this week, Briggs opened up about the incident that took place during the school’s graduation ceremony, which many have speculated was racially motivated. Briggs revealed that a lot has transpired since the push occurred, leading him to come forward and address the situation.

Recalling the moment of the push, Briggs described how he saw the parent, identified as Matthew Eddy, approaching him on the stage. It was only when Eddy uttered threatening words after pushing him that Briggs realized the severity of the situation.

Following the incident, law enforcement officers intervened to restore order, while Eddy was taken into custody. Despite the disruption, Briggs returned to the stage to continue with the graduation ceremony, ensuring that the achievements of the students were duly recognized.

In a surveillance video from the resource officer’s room, Eddy can be heard explaining his actions, citing past issues with Briggs and a desire to prevent him from congratulating his child. Eddy’s apology, albeit for his child’s sake, did little to justify his premeditated actions.
