Carthage Police Department Investigates Homicide
On Thursday, June 14, at approximately 11:35 am, the Carthage Police Department received a 911 call reporting a deceased individual in a camper trailer located in the 600 block of North Main Street. The victim was identified as 24-year-old Kenia Lopez from Carthage, who had tragically lost her life in what appeared to be a homicide.
A male suspect, identified as 23-year-old Gavino McJunkins-Macias from Carthage, was present at the scene and was taken into custody for questioning. Subsequently, McJunkins-Macias was arrested for Abandonment of a Corpse.
The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted in collaboration with the Miami County Lansas Sheriff’s Office. It was revealed that the incident originated in Miami County, Kansas, and reached its conclusion in Carthage. Charges of Murder in the 2nd degree are pending against McJunkins-Macias in Miami County, and he is currently being held in the Jasper County Jail.
