Police officers in Monterrey, Nuevo León have thwarted an attempt to derail the historic steam locomotive “La Emperatriz”. The perpetrator, identified as Inés ‘M’, a 33-year-old man from the state of Tamaulipas, was apprehended while placing stones and wiring on the train tracks in an effort to sabotage its passage.
The incident took place at the intersection of Aarón Sáenz and Díaz Ordaz in the Santa María neighborhood on Monday, June 10, around 1:00 p.m. Municipal police officers were conducting a surveillance operation in the area when they received a report about a man attempting to interfere with the train and threatening the railroad drivers.
Following his arrest, the suspect was taken to the Monterrey Police facilities and subsequently handed over to the Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to face charges for his actions.
This incident marks the third disturbance encountered during the locomotive’s journey through Mexico. “La Emperatriz”, which originated in Canada and has passed through the United States, has faced challenges along its route. Previously, a tragic incident resulted in the death of a woman who was struck by the locomotive, and another individual was captured on camera attempting to cling to the moving train but ultimately falling.
Authorities are investigating the motives behind this latest attempt to disrupt the locomotive’s journey and are working to ensure the safety and security of both the train and its passengers.
