Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Recent revelations have shed light on the extensive criminal history of Daniel Callihan, the man accused of the tragic murder of a Loranger mother and her 3-year-old child. Tangipahoa court records have revealed a pattern of criminal behaviour dating back to 2008, with Callihan being arrested a total of eight times in the parish.

Among the charges brought against Callihan over the years are a variety of felony crimes, including burglary, theft, aggravated battery, simple burglary, and simple assault. In 2009, he pleaded guilty to felony simple burglary, resulting in a 12-year jail sentence that was later suspended on probation terms.

However, in 2014, Callihan violated his probation conditions, leading to the enforcement of a five-year jail term. During his time behind bars, he underwent drug rehabilitation treatment. If he had completed the full five-year sentence, he would have been released in 2019.

The case that has brought Callihan back into the spotlight involves the tragic death of Callie Brunett, a 35-year-old woman from Loranger, and the disappearance of her two young children, Jalie, 6, and Erin, 3. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into the matter, leading to the issuance of an Amber Alert at 12:20 p.m.

Following a possible sighting of Brunett’s car in McComb, Mississippi, authorities received reports of a suspicious individual in Jackson attempting to enter multiple homes. The man in question was later identified as Callihan, who evaded officers and led them on a chase before being apprehended by U.S. Marshals.

Callihan ultimately directed law enforcement to a wooded area where Jalie was found alive inside her mother’s car. Tragically, the body of Erin was discovered in a nearby wooded area. Callihan was taken into custody and booked into the Rankin County Detention Center in Brandon, Mississippi.

Police Chief Joseph Wade of Jackson revealed that Victoria Cox, aged 32, may have been an accomplice and potentially Callihan’s girlfriend. Cox surrendered to U.S. Marshals at a hotel in South Jackson the following morning.

The possibility of extradition back to Louisiana remains uncertain, as Jackson authorities have uncovered a potential human trafficking site in addition to the ongoing homicide investigation in Mississippi.
