Authorities in Louisiana have arrested a 36-year-old man, Daniel Callihan, following the tragic discovery of a 35-year-old mother, Callie Brunett, who was found dead in her home. The incident also involved the abduction of her two daughters, aged 4 and 6.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, the suspect is accused of committing violent acts, including the killings of Callie Brunett and her 4-year-old daughter. The investigation has revealed disturbing details that suggest the possibility of human trafficking involvement.
Law enforcement officials in Jackson, Mississippi, where the abducted daughters were found, noted signs at the scene that indicated potential human trafficking activities, such as the presence of small animal cages.
Sheriff Daniel Edwards expressed condolences to the affected families, calling the crimes “unspeakable.” He urged the community to keep Callie’s family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
An Amber Alert was issued for Brunett’s abducted daughters, leading to a search that eventually located the suspect in a wooded area near a house in Jackson. Tragically, one of the daughters was found deceased, while the other was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police Chief Joseph Wade described the scene as disturbing and vowed to thoroughly investigate any potential human trafficking connections. Authorities are working closely with human trafficking divisions to uncover the full extent of the crime.
Many questions remain unanswered, including the motive behind the abduction and the tragic outcome for one of the children. Investigators are eager to interview Callihan to gather more information about the incident.
It is believed that the suspect had a prior relationship with Brunett, and the Amber Alert indicated that the abduction was linked to a domestic violence incident that resulted in homicide.
