Accident – Death – Obituary News :

An inmate incarcerated at the San Bernardino County jail attempted to harm another inmate and a sheriff’s deputy by using a makeshift knife, officials revealed on Friday.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. Christopher Lommie Jackson, the inmate in question, tried to stab a 28-year-old fellow inmate with a metal knife that he had crafted while being held in custody, as per a news release from the Sheriff’s Department.

Upon the arrival of deputies at the cell, Jackson reportedly turned his attention towards a 45-year-old deputy, attempting to stab him and causing him to fall to the ground. Quick intervention from other deputies thwarted the attack.

Video evidence provided by the Sheriff’s Department captures the moment when Jackson lunged at the deputy with a knife, leading to a struggle on the ground before being separated by other deputies.

The injured deputy, whose identity remains undisclosed, was hospitalized for moderate facial injuries but has since been discharged. It is currently unclear whether the initial inmate targeted by Jackson suffered any injuries from the incident.

Jackson, a 25-year-old resident of San Bernardino, has been in custody since 2019 following his involvement in a murder case, for which he received a 50-year to life sentence. Authorities have announced that Jackson will face additional charges of attempted murder in connection with this recent violent episode.

“Such violent behaviour poses a serious threat to the safety and security of both our staff and the inmate population,” stated San Bernardino Sheriff Shannon Dicus in the release.
