Accident – Death – Obituary News :

An inmate held on a murder charge at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga made a violent attempt to stab another inmate and a deputy this week, officials revealed on Thursday, June 13.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 11, when 25-year-old Christopher Lommie Jackson, a San Bernardino resident, reportedly armed himself with a makeshift metal knife crafted within the jail. Jackson allegedly tried to stab an inmate with whom he had a previous altercation, before turning his weapon on the deputy on duty, according to a statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office.

Footage from the sheriff’s department depicted Jackson knocking the 45-year-old deputy to the ground, while other deputies swiftly intervened to prevent further harm.

The deputy in question sustained moderate facial injuries during the attack and was promptly treated at a nearby hospital before being released, as detailed in the official release.

Jackson, who has been in custody since 2019, has a history of multiple arrests for violent offences in San Bernardino County, officials disclosed.

The alarming incident marks the 51st attack on jail deputies by inmates in San Bernardino County this year alone, with a staggering 236 assaults reported from 2022 through 2023, according to the release.

Sheriff Vows to Pursue Maximum Legal Consequences

“Our deputies work tirelessly to maintain order and provide a secure environment within our correctional facilities,” Sheriff Shannon Dicus declared in a statement. “We will pursue the maximum legal consequences for those who carry out attacks in our correctional facilities.”

A criminal report for attempted murder is set to be filed with the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office in connection with the knife attack, the sheriff’s department confirmed. They have also made available a video recording of the assault for public viewing.
