Cameron Payne : Cameron Payne Arrested in Scottsdale for Disturbance

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Former Phoenix Suns player Cameron Payne found himself in legal trouble early Friday morning after an incident unfolded in Scottsdale.

Law enforcement officials in Scottsdale were dispatched to the vicinity of 68th Street and Chaparral Road around 2:45 a.m. in response to reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers engaged with two individuals, one of whom was later identified as Payne.

While specific details about the nature of the reported disturbance have not been divulged, the Scottsdale Police Department revealed that Payne was subsequently taken into custody on two charges. These charges included failure to disclose an accurate identity and providing law enforcement with false information.

Following his arrest, Payne was processed at the Scottsdale City Jail before being released on his own recognizance.

Having played collegiate basketball at Murray State, Payne was a first-round selection (14th overall) by the Oklahoma City Thunder during the 2015 NBA Draft. Subsequently, he had stints with the Chicago Bulls, as well as brief periods with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors.

Following a brief overseas stint and a tenure with the Dallas Mavericks’ G League team, Payne inked a multi-season contract with the Phoenix Suns in June 2020.

During his tenure with the Suns, Payne served as the backup point guard to Chris Paul, contributing significantly to the team’s success over four seasons. He was later traded to the San Antonio Spurs in July 2023, only to be waived a few months later.

Ahead of the 2023-24 NBA season, Payne joined the Milwaukee Bucks before being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in February.
