GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WMBF) – A Conway resident, Brandon Kinney, found himself in hot water after attempting to pay for his Taco Bell order with counterfeit currency. The incident took place at a Taco Bell location in Georgetown, where Kinney tried to pass off two fake $20 bills as payment.
The Georgetown Police Department swiftly responded to the scene after receiving a report of the counterfeit money. Upon their arrival, Kinney attempted to flee but was apprehended by the officers. It was discovered that Kinney was driving with a suspended license, leading to his immediate arrest.
During a search of Kinney’s person, law enforcement officials also found methamphetamine in his possession, along with four additional counterfeit $20 bills. This discovery shed light on Kinney’s involvement in a similar incident earlier that week at Georgetown Ice Company, where he had also tried to use counterfeit money. A warrant had been issued for his arrest in connection with that case as well.
The Georgetown Police Department is now working in collaboration with the U.S. Secret Service to further investigate the origin of the counterfeit money in Kinney’s possession. In the meantime, Kinney faces charges of driving under suspension, possession of methamphetamine, and two counts of uttering counterfeit currency. He is currently being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center.
