A tragic incident unfolded in Telangana’s Peddapalli district as a minor girl was allegedly raped and killed by a 25-year-old labourer at a rice mill. The accused, identified as Balaram, was promptly arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, according to PTI reports.
Background of the Accused
Balaram, originally from Madhya Pradesh, had been working as a labourer in a rice mill located in Sultanabad, within the Peddapalli district, said Police Commissioner M Sreenivasulu.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The horrifying incident took place while the six-year-old girl was sleeping beside her mother at a camp within the rice mill. Balaram allegedly took advantage of the situation in the early hours, assaulting the girl. When the victim raised an alarm, he resorted to throttling her neck, ultimately leading to her untimely demise.
Community Action and Legal Proceedings
Upon hearing the commotion, residents of the area quickly gathered and apprehended Balaram, facilitating his subsequent arrest. A case involving charges of rape and murder has been registered, with the relevant sections of the POCSO Act being invoked.
Postmortem Examination
Following the tragic event, the victim’s body was transferred to a government hospital for a thorough postmortem examination to aid in the ongoing investigation.
