Another US national also sustained injuries in the same incident, which authorities believe was caused by an electric discharge within the jacuzzi.
The General Prosecutor’s Office of Justice for the state of Sonora confirmed the unfortunate event in a social media post on Wednesday. The victims, both American citizens of Mexican descent, were enjoying a relaxing evening when the incident took place around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the electrical failure that led to the tragic outcome. Puerto Peñasco, also known as Rocky Point, is a popular fishing and resort destination situated on the Gulf of California, just south of Arizona.
