The latest update on July 12, 2024, reveals that Seven Whitfield, a 23-year-old resident of Hephzibah, GA, was taken into custody on June 11, 2024. Whitfield faces charges of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony in relation to the Broad Street shooting.
During the incident on the night of the shooting, Whitfield sustained gunshot wounds, was promptly transported to a local hospital, and was discharged on the same day. This development comes hot on the heels of the arrest of Amazing Lee Blessed Brigham, a 19-year-old individual from Hephzibah, GA, who was implicated in an officer-involved shooting and aggravated assault.
Brigham was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement officials delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the incident that unfolded at the Sole’ restaurant on Broad Street, Augusta.
Preliminary reports suggest that in the early hours of Saturday, June 8, 2024, three Richmond County deputies, working off-duty shifts at the popular restaurant, were alerted to multiple gunshots. Responding swiftly, the deputies encountered a man brandishing an assault pistol outside the establishment. A confrontation ensued, leading to the deputies opening fire on the suspect, resulting in injuries to both the suspect and two bystanders.
Further scrutiny of the crime scene revealed that the gunfire exchange was not limited to just the suspect and law enforcement officers but involved multiple unidentified individuals over a span of two to three blocks. The motive behind the altercation that sparked the gunfight remains unclear at this juncture. Various weapons were recovered from the scene, alongside evidence of the crime, including damage inflicted on seven vehicles and nearby businesses due to the barrage of bullets.
