In a devastating turn of events, a truck driver lost his life in an accident at Lakeside Book Company, North Plant in Crawfordsville, Indiana on Wednesday. The incident took place in the parking lot of the plant situated in the 1000 block of Sloan Street, not far from Wabash College.
The victim, identified as 42-year-old Adam Raad from Alsip, Illinois, was a driver for a trucking company based in Chicago. Upon discovery at the back of a flatbed semi-trailer, Raad was rushed to Franciscan Health Crawfordsville hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead.
According to a statement released by the City of Crawfordsville, a fellow truck driver from the same company recounted the tragic event to investigators. It was reported that during a scheduled pickup, the driver was manoeuvring a large container towards the back of the trailer using tandem trailer axles, unaware that Raad had climbed onto the back of the trailer to open the container. The moving container collided with Raad, resulting in severe injuries.
The Crawfordsville Police Department has launched an investigation into the incident, and an autopsy has been scheduled for Raad to determine the exact cause of death. It has been clarified that no employees from Lakeside Book Company were involved in the accident.
