A tragic incident unfolded in the east Las Vegas Valley earlier this week, resulting in the death of a 23-year-old man identified as Xzavier Maheia. The fatal shooting, which took place on Monday morning, led to the arrest of 25-year-old Isaiah Branch, who has been charged with murder.

According to reports, Branch and Maheia, childhood friends, decided to meet up while Maheia was in town. The two, along with Branch’s girlfriend, gathered in Branch’s car around 2 a.m. to have drinks. However, things took a dark turn when they entered Maheia’s house on Peyton Drive.

Branch claimed that during their time in the house, Maheia sexually assaulted him while he was intoxicated and vomiting in the bathroom. Branch’s girlfriend, who witnessed the altercation, indicated that it did not seem consensual. She briefly left the house but was unable to re-enter when she returned.

Multiple conflicting accounts of the events leading up to the shooting were provided by Branch, his girlfriend, and Maheia’s sister. The situation escalated into a series of fights, culminating in gunfire that claimed Maheia’s life.

Despite Branch’s claims of self-defense, the evidence at the scene did not align with the statements given. As a result, Branch is facing a murder charge and is currently in custody without bail. His court appearance is scheduled for June 27.
