In a recent development, Dubuque police have revealed the identity of the deceased individual found during an arrest warrant service at his apartment. The person in question has been identified as Trent Paschal, a 24-year-old resident of Dubuque. Paschal, who was a teacher and coach at Jefferson Middle School in the Dubuque Community School District, was discovered dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound as officers were attempting to serve the arrest warrant on Wednesday.

Authorities disclosed that Paschal was under investigation for his alleged involvement in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student within the district. The investigation revealed that Paschal and the student had exchanged explicit text messages and SnapChats, and had visited Paschal’s apartment on multiple occasions.

Forensic evidence, as well as data from traffic and surveillance cameras, were used to corroborate the allegations against Paschal. Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued for two counts of Third Degree Sexual Abuse.

On the morning of the incident, as officers approached Paschal’s residence on Washington Street, they heard a gunshot emanating from inside the apartment. Upon entering, they discovered Paschal’s lifeless body, confirming the cause of death as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Dubuque Community School District issued a statement in response to the tragic events, emphasizing their commitment to providing a safe learning environment for students. The District initiated an investigation upon receiving reports of Paschal’s alleged misconduct, promptly placing him on administrative leave and collaborating with law enforcement throughout the process.

As the District continues to navigate the aftermath of this incident, they are focused on supporting students and staff during this challenging period. Additional counselling services will be made available to those affected by the events, with sessions scheduled to provide assistance and guidance.
