A man has been taken into custody after allegedly setting fire to a McDonald’s restaurant in Milpitas in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The incident, which occurred at the McDonald’s located at 41 Ranch Drive, was reported to the Milpitas Police Department at 2:38 a.m.

According to police reports, the suspect was observed throwing an incendiary device through a glass window of the closed McDonald’s establishment. Fortunately, no individuals were present inside the restaurant at the time of the incident.

Law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the scene, with an MPD officer arriving within just three minutes of receiving the emergency call. The Milpitas Fire Department was also on site to extinguish the fire, which caused an estimated $150,000 worth of damage to the property.

The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Milpitas resident Tai Trinh, was apprehended approximately half a mile away from the McDonald’s location. Trinh has since been booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of arson and felony vandalism. His bail is currently set at $160,000, as per county jail records.
