A Maryland man has been taken into custody following a botched transaction arranged through the popular online platform, Facebook Marketplace, in Fairfax, Virginia.

The individual in question has been identified as 25-year-old Rodney Hart Jr.

Law enforcement officials were dispatched to the 14600 block of Seasons Drive in Centreville in response to a reported carjacking incident that took place on June 5 at 10:09 p.m. Hart had reached out to the victims, two adult males, expressing interest in purchasing a vehicle they had listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

Upon inspecting the interior of the vehicle, Hart instructed the victims to vacate the premises. However, the victims refused to comply, leading to a confrontation. The suspect managed to flee the scene before the authorities arrived, leaving one of the victims with minor injuries that were treated on-site.

Following the investigation, Hart was formally charged with carjacking and two counts of abduction. He has been remanded in custody without the option for bail.
