On the morning of 11th June 2024, a distress call was made to the Hong Kong Police, reporting a suspected collapse of a man inside a unit on Dyer Avenue in Hung Hom. Emergency personnel arrived at the scene to find the unconscious male, identified as Mr. Yu, who was later transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. Sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after admission. Initial investigations suggest that the victim had consumed a beverage containing drugs, but further examination is needed to determine the exact cause of death.

Following this tragic incident, authorities took action and arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of engaging in drug-assisted illegal sexual activities and drug trafficking. Additionally, a 51-year-old man was also arrested for drug use. During the arrest, law enforcement officers discovered a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine, known as “ice,” at the scene, indicating a potential link to the case.

Details of the Investigation

Mr. Yu, the deceased, was a resident of Yau Tong Centre and worked as an accountant. The two suspects, Mr. Pang (54) and Mr. Cheung (51), were involved in a sexual relationship with Mr. Yu for approximately two years. The trio occasionally organised “chem-fun” parties, which are gatherings within the gay community involving drug use to enhance sexual experiences, at Mr. Pang’s residence in Hung Sing House, Hung Hom Estate.

On the evening of Monday, Mr. Yu attended one such party where he consumed methamphetamine and γ-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) and engaged in sexual activities with Mr. Pang. Subsequently, Mr. Yu felt drowsy and fell asleep on the bed. Mr. Pang then invited Mr. Cheung and another man, whom he had met through the dating app “Grindr,” to join the party. All three individuals were involved in drug use and sexual encounters.

Discovery of Unconscious Victim

Early on Tuesday morning, Mr. Pang discovered that Mr. Yu remained unconscious, with weak breathing and a faint heartbeat. Emergency services were contacted at 10.20am, and Mr. Yu was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead. While there were no apparent signs of suspicious injuries on Mr. Yu’s body, the exact cause of death is still unknown pending the results of the autopsy. Neighbours of the incident location noted that a single man had moved in around three months ago, with no visible signs of renovation or furniture deliveries, adding a sense of mystery to his presence.
