A Grand Forks resident has been taken into custody following a collision with a police patrol car late on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12th, at the junction of Gateway Drive and Stanford Road. According to authorities, the patrol vehicle was approaching a green traffic light when it collided with an SUV making a left turn onto Stanford Road, resulting in a crash at the intersection.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage in the collision and had to be removed from the scene by tow trucks.

The driver of the SUV, identified as 37-year-old Mark Mondor from Grand Forks, was initially issued a citation for failing to yield the right of way. However, upon further investigation, Mondor was arrested on charges of Driving under the Influence (DUI) and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test.

Following the crash, both Mondor and the police officer involved received medical attention from paramedics at the scene but declined further treatment.

An inquiry into the circumstances of the accident is currently ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and contact the Grand Forks Police Department.
