Public Hearing on OSF Healthcare Certificate of Need Application

This afternoon at 4 p.m., the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board will be hosting a public hearing at Central Intermediate School in Ottawa. The hearing will focus on the Certificate of Need application filed by OSF Healthcare for the construction of a new hospital that will replace the aging St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Ottawa. The application has been met with opposition from the Citizens for Healthcare in Ottawa (CHO), who have raised concerns about the proposed changes to services at the hospital. The group, known for their active presence on social media and their website saveottawahealthcare.com, highlights a significant reduction in medical/surgical beds, the elimination of obstetric services, a decrease in operating rooms, and the removal of intensive care services in the new plan put forth by OSF Healthcare. In response, OSF Healthcare plans to transform St. Elizabeth’s Hospital into a two-campus setup, with services being shifted to the newly-reopened St. Elizabeth’s-Peru facility. The public hearing will provide an opportunity for community members to voice their opinions on the proposed changes. Those wishing to make comments will be limited to two minutes each. Additionally, written comments can be submitted online to the Illinois Health Facilities and Review Board at hfsrb.illinois.gov, with a deadline for submissions set for July 19.
