Tragedy struck in Hartford, Connecticut, when a construction worker lost his life in a devastating accident. The incident occurred at the intersection of West Boulevard and South Whitney Street, where the worker, identified as 54-year-old Jose Diaz-Nieves, was struck and killed by a speeding driver. The construction worker was part of a team working on a project for the Metropolitan District Commission.
The driver responsible for the fatal crash has been identified as 25-year-old Tommy Nguyen. Hartford police reported that Nguyen was travelling at a high rate of speed through the construction zone when he hit Diaz-Nieves. Following the collision, Nguyen’s vehicle became disabled, and he was promptly taken into custody at the scene.

Tommy Nguyen now faces a series of charges, including manslaughter, reckless driving, operating a vehicle without insurance, and driving with a suspended license. Additionally, two passengers who were in Nguyen’s car at the time of the accident were transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Providing insight into the tragic event, Hartford police Lt. Aaron Boisvert revealed that the construction worker was a private contractor employed by the MDC. Following his arrest, Nguyen was placed on a $1 million bond as the investigation into the crash continues.
