MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – A disturbing incident of attempted child kidnapping unfolded Wednesday afternoon in Manhattan’s bustling Aggieville district, resulting in the arrest of a 43-year-old man, Jonathan Lewis Lemuel Valentine, who is now detained in the Riley County Jail.

The harrowing episode transpired around 1:01 p.m. on Wednesday, prompting a swift response from the Riley County police following reports of an attempted child abduction outside the So Long Saloon on Moro Street.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officials were able to swiftly identify Valentine as the suspect, thanks to the prompt action of the manager who witnessed the unsettling events.

Eyewitnesses recounted a distressing account of Valentine aggressively asserting that a child did not belong to their guardian, before making a brazen attempt to snatch the 7-month-old infant, resulting in minor injuries to the child.

Valentine was promptly apprehended by officers at approximately 1:23 p.m. on Wednesday in the 700 block of N. 12th Street in Aggieville, where he was taken into custody on charges of attempted aggravated kidnapping.

Currently, Valentine remains incarcerated in the Riley County Jail, with a bail set at £50,000 as investigations continue into the disturbing incident.
