Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the tragic shooting death of Jennifer Dobbins, a 30-year-old Imperial Beach resident, who was fatally shot by a deputy in Corona this week.

The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday on W. 6th Street, where Dobbins was shot just after 1 a.m. She was rushed to Riverside County Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Bureau.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with the California Department of Justice mandated to look into fatal law enforcement shootings of unarmed civilians under AB 1506. The DOJ’s California Police Shooting Investigation Team has initiated the investigation, and upon completion, it will be handed over to the Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for independent review.

During the early morning confrontation, a deputy attempted to make contact with multiple individuals for reasons that are still unclear. However, instead of cooperating, the individuals fled the scene. The deputy pursued them on foot, and when he turned a corner, a man from the group lunged at him, sparking a physical altercation.

As the deputy struggled with the male suspect, a female, later identified as Dobbins, began assaulting the deputy. In response, the deputy fired his weapon, hitting Dobbins. The deputy continued to fend off the male suspect, who was attempting to seize his firearm, with the help of bystanders who intervened to detain the suspect.

Dobbins was taken to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The deputy sustained moderate injuries during the altercation and was also hospitalized. The male suspect, identified as Eric John Nourani, a 33-year-old from San Diego County, sustained minor injuries and has been booked into Riverside’s Robert Presley Detention Center.

Nourani faces charges of murder, attempted murder of a peace officer, and several sentencing enhancements. Despite having no prior criminal record in Riverside County, Nourani remains in custody on a $2,080,000 bail. The deputy involved in the incident will be placed on paid administrative leave as per Riverside County Sheriff’s Department policy.

The location of the incident falls within the jurisdiction of the Lake Mathews Sheriff’s Station and Corona Police Department, as confirmed by sheriff’s Sgt. Wenndy Brito-Gonzalez.
