Accident – Death – Obituary News : Residents in Pune have taken to the streets to protest against the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) following a tragic incident where a woman was crushed to death by a speeding truck near Gangadham Chowk. The harrowing incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, leaving the community in shock and anger.

The victim, identified as 59-year-old Damayanti Bhupendra Solanki, was riding pillion on a motorcycle with her daughter-in-law, Priyanka Solanki, when they were struck by the truck. Sadly, Damayanti succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while Priyanka was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The driver of the truck, identified as Ashok Chhotelal Mahato, a 37-year-old resident of Bavdhan, was apprehended by enraged locals and handed over to the authorities. Mahato has been charged under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other relevant sections. It was revealed that the truck was carrying building construction materials at the time of the accident.

Despite regulations banning heavy vehicles from using the road during daytime hours, it was reported that such vehicles continue to operate without fear of repercussions from law enforcement. This blatant disregard for traffic laws has raised concerns among the residents and has sparked demands for stricter enforcement measures.

In response to the tragedy, Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni has urged the Pune City Police Commissioner to ensure the strict implementation of the ban on heavy vehicles on the roads. Kulkarni emphasised the need for holding both the vehicle driver and traffic police officials accountable for their actions, calling for disciplinary action against those responsible for negligence.

Adding to the chorus of voices demanding accountability, Vijay Kumbhar, the Maharashtra State Vice President of the Aam Aadmi Party, highlighted the grave consequences of lax enforcement of regulations. Kumbhar expressed concern over the potential for future accidents resulting from the alleged collusion between builders, politicians, and government officials.

The tragic incident has reignited calls for improved road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations in Pune. As the community mourns the loss of Damayanti Solanki, there is a growing sense of urgency to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future..
