Manitoba RCMP has concluded that there was no criminal activity involved in the tragic death of Brittany Storey. The investigation began on June 6 when Mounties received a report from the Winnipeg police regarding Storey’s disappearance.
According to the report, Storey was last known to be in the Rennie area, based on messages exchanged with her friends in a group chat. It was mentioned that she had been involved in an accident, hitting a tree which led to the call being abruptly cut off.
Law enforcement authorities conducted an extensive search for Storey and her vehicle, scouring the areas between Rennie and Winnipeg, including remote back roads. After gathering new information during their investigation, the focus shifted towards Molson, Manitoba.
RCMP deployed various resources in the search, including the use of remote-piloted aircraft services and assistance from the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA). On June 11, members of the RCMP’s underwater recovery team located Storey’s vehicle submerged in a pond near Molson, following tire tracks.
The vehicle was successfully retrieved from the water, and sadly, a body was discovered inside. An autopsy conducted on Wednesday confirmed that the body belonged to Brittany Storey and determined that her cause of death was linked to the vehicle entering the water.
Sergeant Laura LeDrew of RCMP Major Crime Services expressed gratitude for the community’s support and assistance in the search for Storey. She acknowledged that the outcome was not what anyone had hoped for and assured that out of respect for Storey’s privacy and her family, no further details would be disclosed.
