Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The woman who was critically injured in a road rage shooting in Putnam County, Florida, has been discharged from the hospital and has bravely spoken about the traumatic event that changed her life.

Ashlie Cochran recounted the harrowing experience that took place on Highway 17 near the Paloma Park Dollar General store on May 31. She recalled how she noticed another driver, identified as 56-year-old Keith Shaulis, tailgating her vehicle.

Despite attempting to pull over to let the aggressive driver pass, Cochran never imagined that he would escalate the situation by pulling up next to her and opening fire.

The tailgating continued until Cochran tried to turn off the highway onto Lake Como Drive. She described the driver’s reckless behaviour, stating, “I felt like he was trying to cause an incident and escalate the problem.”

After a series of dangerous manoeuvres by Shaulis, including driving slowly in front of her and tapping his brakes, Cochran managed to pass him. However, he began chasing her, leading to a terrifying confrontation that left her critically injured.

Shaulis allegedly fired shots at Cochran as she opened her car door, striking her in the stomach. The bullet caused critical injuries that required emergency surgery to remove sections of her small intestines. Additionally, the bullet lodged in her pelvic bone, leading to nerve damage in her leg.

Cochran shared the emotional impact of the incident, revealing that she can only feel 50% of her leg and struggles to walk as a result. She expressed gratitude that her husband and son were unharmed, with her son managing to avoid the bullets by hiding on the floor of the vehicle.

Shaulis was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery, and illegal use of a firearm. Law enforcement officials are considering whether to upgrade the charges to attempted murder based on the severity of the incident.

Tom Hackney, a Crime and Safety Analyst, described the road rage incident as an extreme case with potentially fatal consequences. He highlighted the dangers of aggressive driving, citing statistics that show 66% of traffic fatalities are linked to aggressive driving, with 37% involving the use of firearms.

Cochran’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the financial expenses incurred as a result of the incident.

Conclusion

The road rage incident in Putnam County serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with aggressive driving. As Ashlie Cochran continues to recover from her injuries, her story sheds light on the devastating impact of such senseless acts of violence on innocent individuals and their families.
