The body discovered on June 2 in a wooded area off North Avenue in Athens has been identified as that of a homeless man, according to Athens-Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson.

Wilson confirmed on Wednesday that the deceased individual has been positively identified as 62-year-old Timothy Scott Brown through fingerprints provided by the State Crime Lab.

Despite the identification, the cause of Brown’s death remains unresolved. Wilson mentioned that further tests are currently pending to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his passing.

The body was found in a wooded area adjacent to the Georgia Division of Family Services, where a homeless camp had previously been located before being removed.

An additional homeless man discovered the decomposing body of a white male on June 2 around 2 p.m. while walking in the vicinity, as reported by Athens-Clarke police.

Following the discovery, the 36-year-old man contacted the authorities regarding the body. However, he was subsequently arrested after it was revealed that he was wanted on a probation violation warrant.

Wilson located relatives of Brown in Dacula and Putnam County, ensuring that they were informed of his passing.
