Lee Sherman Williams and Naikita Nicole Dukes, both residents of Idlewild, have been charged with accessory after the fact to a felony, specifically open murder. Williams, who also faces a previous charge of obstructing a police officer, has had his bond set at $50,000 cash or surety. His preliminary exam conference is scheduled for June 17, with the preliminary exam set for June 24. Dukes, on the other hand, has a bond set at $75,000 cash or surety, with her preliminary exam conference scheduled for June 18 and the preliminary exam set for June 25.
Marquavis Darnelle Cager, who was previously arraigned on a charge of open murder in connection with the shooting, remains in custody on a $1 million cash or surety bond. Lake County Prosecutor Craig Cooper has been tight-lipped about the details leading up to the shooting, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
A probable cause conference for Cager has been scheduled for June 13, with a preliminary hearing set for June 17. The incident, which occurred near Peyton’s Bar and Grill in Yates Township, left the community in shock. Rashad Hawkins, a 32-year-old Baldwin man, was tragically shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.
Cager, who sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound, was taken to the hospital for treatment. Williams, who was arrested for resisting and obstructing, is believed to have been involved in an earlier dispute that escalated into violence. However, authorities have reassured the public that this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
