A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Kaunia, Barishal city, as a 35-year-old man took his own life after brutally murdering his five-year-old daughter on Wednesday. The man, identified as Naim Hawladar, resided in a flat located in the ‘Swapno Bilash’ building in the area, along with his daughter, Rabeya Bashri Roza.
According to Arafat Hossain, a sub-inspector at Kaunia Police Station, Naim, who worked as a driver at Opsonin Pharma, had gone through a divorce with his wife, Rabeya, four months prior to the tragic incident. Following the divorce, Rabeya had been living with her father.
The horrific turn of events transpired on Tuesday night when Naim and Rabeya engaged in a heated argument over the custody of their daughter. In a fit of rage, Naim viciously attacked his daughter, slitting her throat with a sharp weapon before taking his own life in a similar manner.
The following morning, the police were alerted to the scene and discovered the lifeless bodies of Naim and Rabeya. The community in Kaunia was left in shock and disbelief upon learning of the tragic demise of the father and daughter.
