2. Grandparents of missing Kentucky infant arrested.
Accident – Death – Obituary News : Kentucky State Police conducted a thorough search in the woods near the residence of missing 8-month-old Miya Tucker on Tuesday, utilizing cadaver dogs in hopes of finding any clues. Unfortunately, as nightfall approached, no discoveries were made.
State Police Trooper Corey King shared with NBC affiliate WFIE of nearby Evansville, Indiana, that there is no evidence suggesting the infant is deceased, but at the same time, there is no evidence indicating she is still alive. The uncertainty surrounding Miya’s whereabouts has left authorities and the community deeply concerned.
The investigation into Miya’s disappearance has led to the arrest of several individuals, including the infant’s parents, Tesla Tucker, 29, and Cage Rudd, 30, as well as her grandparents Billie J. Smith, 49, and Ricky J. Smith, 56. Additionally, a fifth person, identified as Timothy L. Roach, has also been taken into custody. It is worth noting that all suspects are residents of the Reynolds Station area, except for Roach, who hails from Owensboro.
Legal representation for the accused parties remains unclear at this time, as the public defender for the area has yet to respond to requests for comment. Some of the individuals appeared in court on Monday, with further court appearances scheduled for Wednesday. The ongoing legal proceedings are expected to shed more light on the case.
State police first announced the arrests of Miya’s parents and grandfather last Thursday, citing charges related to child abandonment and fentanyl possession. According to Trooper King, the parents were located at a Motel 6 in Kentucky, where illegal substances, including fentanyl pills and methamphetamine, were found in plain sight. However, Miya was not present at the time of the arrest.
In a troubling turn of events, Miya’s grandmother was also taken into custody after it was discovered that she had an active domestic violence warrant. During the investigation at her residence, authorities witnessed Roach discarding unprescribed drugs under his vehicle, resulting in his arrest on suspicion of drug possession.
The relationship between Roach and the Tucker family remains unclear, adding another layer of complexity to the case. Trooper King revealed that a family member informed authorities that Miya had not been seen since late April. The lack of information from those closest to the infant has posed challenges for the search efforts.
Notably, Miya’s umbilical cord tested positive for methamphetamine at birth in October, raising concerns about her well-being. State authorities had removed her three older siblings from the household due to alleged drug-related issues. The state Cabinet for Health and Family Services had intended to remove Miya as well, but her parents claimed she was already in the custody of the Cabinet, which was later found to be untrue.
Despite the grim circumstances surrounding Miya’s disappearance, investigators remain hopeful that she will be found safe. Trooper King emphasised the importance of a swift resolution, stating, “The longer this goes, the more grim of an outcome this will be.”
As the search for Miya continues, the community and law enforcement are urging anyone with information to come forward. The urgency to locate the missing infant remains a top priority for Kentucky State Police.
