SALISBURY — A male suspect has been apprehended by authorities after he allegedly attempted to evade arrest by climbing a tree following a reported break-in at a residence on Sunday.

The sequence of events unfolded around 4:30 a.m. at a property on Peach Orchard Lane, where the homeowners were startled by a loud commotion outside their abode. Upon investigating, the occupants observed an individual prowling around their premises, as relayed by Chief Deputy Jason Owen of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect purportedly forced entry into the screened-in patio area before aggressively banging on the entrance to the dwelling. Subsequently, the residents promptly dialed 911, prompting the intruder to flee the patio and ascend a nearby tree in a bid to elude capture, according to Owens.

Law enforcement personnel endeavored to negotiate with the suspect to coax him down voluntarily, resorting to enlisting the fire department’s assistance in deploying a ladder. Despite initial skepticism from the individual regarding the authenticity of the officers, he eventually descended on his own accord after a brief standoff, Owens disclosed.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Jose Alfredo Rodriguez, was subsequently taken into custody by deputies. He faces charges of felony first-degree burglary and misdemeanor damage to property. Rodriguez is currently incarcerated at the Rowan County Detention Center without bond, as per online detention records.
