LUMBERTON, Texas — Lumberton Police are currently investigating a tragic two-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of an 80-year-old man on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. on U.S. Highway 69 at the intersection of M-Video Road in Lumberton.
Details of the Crash
According to Lumberton Police Department Chief Danny Sullins, a Honda Civic was heading southbound on Highway 69 and was attempting to make a left turn onto M-Video Road. However, the driver of the Civic failed to yield and turned directly into the path of a 2022 Ford Bronco that was travelling northbound on Highway 69.
Tragically, the passenger of the Honda Civic, identified as Jerry Charles Becka Jr., aged 80 and a resident of Lumberton, lost his life as a result of the collision.
Injuries and Hospitalization
Both drivers involved in the crash sustained injuries and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.
