Accident – Death – Obituary News : INDIANAPOLIS — A teenager has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old at a Halloween party last October after Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers arrested him for a carjacking just hours later.
The incident took place on Oct. 21, 2023, when IMPD responded to a gas station on the east side of Indianapolis for a report of a person shot. Tragically, 15-year-old Edwin Simon-Osorio, who had attended a nearby Halloween party, was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound.
Nearly eight months later, IMPD has charged 17-year-old Alan Peregrino in connection to the shooting. Peregrino was already in custody for a carjacking that occurred shortly after the shooting.
According to IMPD, witnesses reported that a large Halloween party was taking place in the 5400 block of E. 20th Street with over 100 attendees. In the early hours of the morning, gunshots were heard, causing panic among partygoers. Evidence collected at the scene included a broken tree branch and fired 9mm cartridge casings.
Court documents revealed that party attendees informed IMPD that Peregrino was intoxicated, involved in arguments, and brandishing two firearms inside the party. Witnesses stated that Peregrino later went outside and began rapping while pointing a laser-equipped gun at people. Simon-Osorio reportedly tried to intervene and asked Peregrino to put the guns away, to which the suspect responded with threats of violence.
Shortly after the shooting, IMPD officers responded to a carjacking just a few blocks away, where a male matching Peregrino’s description had crashed a stolen vehicle and was armed. The suspect was apprehended, and a 9mm Glock 17 with an extended magazine and green laser sight was recovered.
Lab forensics teams matched Peregrino’s firearm to bullet casings found at the shooting scene, and video footage from the party showed him brandishing weapons. Multiple witnesses identified Peregrino from a photo lineup.
Peregrino now faces charges of felony murder for his alleged involvement in the shooting. In addition, he is charged with kidnapping while hijacking a vehicle, armed robbery, criminal recklessness, and other offenses related to the carjacking incident. A pretrial conference for the carjacking case is scheduled for June 18.
As Peregrino is a juvenile who will turn 18 in December, IMPD has chosen not to release his mugshot. He is being charged as an adult in this case. The teenager appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday to be formally charged and is expected to return for further legal proceedings in the coming weeks..
