Two Men Arrested in Connection to Murder of Boss in Homa Bay County

Police authorities have apprehended two individuals suspected of being involved in the murder of their employer, Sarah Achieng, in Kanyanjwa village, located in Gem West Location, Rangwe constituency, Homa Bay County. The 45-year-old widow was tragically found dead in her home on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

Sarah Achieng, who had employed the two men as shopkeepers and operators of a posho mill, seemed to have suffered fatal injuries from a blunt object, with a visible deep cut on her head. Kanyanjwa Sub Location Assistant Chief Kennedy Onyango confirmed the incident, stating that there were blood stains throughout her house, indicating that she was attacked before being killed.

The suspects were captured by the police on Sunday evening after an extensive investigation. According to Onyango, the two individuals had disappeared immediately following the incident. The discovery of Achieng’s body on Friday by concerned residents, who visited her home to make purchases, raised alarm bells as they found no one present to attend to them.

Neighbours grew suspicious upon noticing blood stains near the entrance of the house, with some residents reporting hearing a disturbance coming from Achieng’s residence before her untimely death.

Rangwe Police Commander Magdalene Chebet revealed that the cause of Achieng’s death was strangulation and assault. Chebet further stated that the suspects are currently in custody at Rangwe police station as investigations continue.

“We are keen to establish the whereabouts of the two men during the time of their employer’s murder. Additionally, we will seek answers as to why they fled the scene instead of reporting the incident and fulfilling their work obligations,” Chebet explained.

The deceased’s body has been transferred to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for further examination. The community remains shocked by the heinous crime that has taken place within their midst.
