ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- An Odessa resident, Michael Roy Guzman, Jr., found himself behind bars last weekend after authorities reported that he attempted to shoot his ex-girlfriend. The 38-year-old has been hit with multiple charges, including Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon by a Felon, Unlawful Possession of Body Armor by a Felon, and Parole Violation.
Upon responding to a disturbance call on June 2 at a residence in the 2700 block of Redwood Drive, Odessa Police Department officers delved into an escalating situation involving Guzman and his former partner. The woman reported to authorities that an argument erupted when Guzman arrived to retrieve some of his belongings, eventually culminating in a physical altercation.
During the heated exchange, the woman recounted how Guzman violently grabbed her by the hair and forcefully struck her head against the steering wheel as he attempted to drive away with her partially hanging out of the vehicle. Managing to break free, she sprinted towards her house, only to be confronted by her 18-year-old son who emerged to investigate the commotion. The son witnessed Guzman pursuing his mother, leading to a scuffle where the teen defended his parent by inflicting a stab wound on Guzman in self-defence.
Subsequently, Guzman discharged a single round at the property before fleeing the scene. Surveillance footage and the discovery of a 9mm shell casing corroborated the victims’ accounts, confirming Guzman’s aggressive actions on the woman’s premises.
Following his self-sought medical treatment for the stab wound at Medical Center Hospital, law enforcement located Guzman and uncovered a handgun, body armour, and 22 grams of cocaine inside his vehicle. Post-hospital discharge, Guzman was promptly apprehended and incarcerated at the Ector County Law Enforcement Center, where he remains in custody with a combined bail set at £105,000 as of Tuesday afternoon.
